Trained in Textile Design at Central Saint Martins in London, Irene Infantes does not distinguish between art and design. In her practice she approaches both fields in parallel, combining her art production with collaborative projects for design firms such as Christopher Farr. In both fields the artist explores the plasticity of materials: she strains their resistance and applies them to execute works characterised by a synthesis of representation and the use of a varied repertoire of materials, textures and surfaces. Her work aims to unsettle the spectator with different perspectives, and to captivate the viewer with the materiality of the works, the colour and the compositional clarity.
In 2023, she was awarded the Mutur Beltz artistic residency grant in Karrantza, Basque Country and in 2021, she won a residency grant, within the V Programa de Investigación y Produción C3A, Córdoba. Her solo exhibitions include Diez uñas traigo en forma de cuna at Alarcón Criado gallery (2023), Me lo dijo Hisham at the Alarcón Criado gallery (2021), Trashumancia at the García Galería García (Madrid, 2019) and Social life of a material at the Gal Gallery (London, 2018) curated by Arvida Bystrom.
