Seville, 1989.

Trained in Textile Design at Central Saint Martins in London, Irene Infantes does not distinguish between art and design. In her practice she approaches both fields in parallel, combining her art production with collaborative projects for design firms such as Christopher Farr. In both fields the artist explores the plasticity of materials: she strains their resistance and applies them to execute works characterised by a synthesis of representation and the use of a varied repertoire of materials, textures and surfaces. Her work aims to unsettle the spectator with different perspectives, and to captivate the viewer with the materiality of the works, the colour and the compositional clarity.

In 2023, she was awarded the Mutur Beltz artistic residency grant in Karrantza, Basque Country and in 2021, she won a residency grant, within the V Programa de Investigación y Produción C3A, Córdoba. Her solo exhibitions include Diez uñas traigo en forma de cuna at Alarcón Criado gallery (2023), Me lo dijo Hisham at the Alarcón Criado gallery (2021), Trashumancia at the García Galería García (Madrid, 2019) and Social life of a material at the Gal Gallery (London, 2018) curated by Arvida Bystrom.

She has also taken part in group exhibitions such as Turno de réplica. Construcción/composición at the Museo Patio Herreriano, (Valladolid, 2021), Una grieta en la montaña at the Centro de creación Contemporánea de Andalucía C3A, (Cordoba, 2021) and Entre las formas que van hacia la sierpe y las formas que buscan el cristal at the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (Seville, 2020) curated by Joaquín Jesús Sanchez and Roxana Gazdzinski.

In 2023, she was granted with two awards: Estampa Comunidad de Madrid Award and the Textile Design Award (Design and Innovation Awards) “Fuera de serie” (Madrid). In 2020 he won the EL Diseño: Un Viaje entre Italia y España award. The Texprint Award in 2017, leads her to exhibit in different galleries in the UK and Paris.
