Lives and works in Madrid.

Emilio Gañán, was born in Plasencia, Caceres in 1971, he lifes and works in Madrid. He is graduated from University of Salamanca in Fine Arts (painting speciality). His first individual exhibition took place in the Geography and History Faculty of Salamanca in 2000. Since then, his work has appeared in numerous exhibitions and national and international fairs of art in Madrid, Badajoz, Pamplona, Seville, Caceres, Lisbon, Merida, Salamanca, Bogota, Sao Paulo, Caracas, Azores, among others. In 2009, Gañán obtained the First Prize of II Bienal Extremeña de Artes Plásticas. This recognition has been added to others ones, like III Award of Fines Arts of Gobierno de Cantabria, or Special Painting Award Timoteo Pérez Rubio. His works are present in important

public and institutional collections, like Junta de Castilla y León Collection, Rey Juan Carlos University (Madrid), la Caja de Extremadura, Ministry of Foreign Affair of Rome, the Casa de Velázquez of Madrid o Cajasol Collection, among others. To simplify and to purify and to face the subjectivity to the objectivity are the principles of Emilio Gañáns aesthetics, a work which recognize and quantify an order of mathematical type determined by those factors that refer to the symmetry, the balance and the simplicity. The practice of his painting lead him to what Javier Hernando qualified as sensitive geometry, in which the orchestration of the color and his application on the surface shows the sensuality of the matter without forgetting the rigor of the form.

In the last ten years, Gañán has elaborated a vocabulary defined by lines, points and planes that make a system of expression in constant evolution. The slang is defined in the process of the pictorial practice, is articulated on other disciplines and supports, avoiding dogmatic expositions that marked the guidelines of other geometers. It is difficult to Emilio Gañán speak about his work in terms of meaning. As Rechalk Debray, he feels that there is something deeply subversive in refusing to express anything. He denies to explain the painting because for him this one is a pure form. The painting thrills you, raises you or sinks you with abstract patterns, his slang. The picture has turned into an object, and this object for the artist is a talisman.
